Looking for an adventure

Well, now that the girls will be more independent, I am going to attempt to utilize the time that I now train to be more focused with a purpose.  That means keeping my limited time but making the most of it from a serious training standpoint.  So, next year I am going to do the same 2 races, but I want to drop the hammer and make a statement.   So more serious training sessions and more yoga to get my range of motion where it needs to be so I can perform at my best.  I might even be filming my sessions and track my progress.  Here goes nothing!

Optimal Health

This year I am going to focus on achieving optimal health.  this will be a long journey and will take patience, but optimal health comes before performance.  There will be lots of yoga, strength and endurance zone training until I feel ready to move to the next step.  This comes from reaching back to what I was taught in college and a little of what I have read and conversations I have had with people I trust.  Here goes nothing.

Base Building 2014

Well, for the next 4 -6 weeks I will purely be focusing on some serious base building.  I'll be incorporating Phil Mafftone's theory with a few of my own.  It's going to be painfully slow but I want to see if this theory truly works.  I'll also be spending 2 days per week on strength, range of motion and running drills as I know that is something that makes a HUGE difference running.  The purpose is to improve and be injury free...which should be everyone';s goal:)  Let's see what happens.

I'm not posting like I was years ago:(

Well, Nicole is 12 weeks today and things are going well.  Work is nuts and training is going pretty smoothly.    Although I'm not as structured I am still getting stronger.  2014 will be Ironman Arizona again and I'm going to try something way to the left.:) More on that later. Coaching is going great.  I have 2 athletes who are doing a good job with work and all.  I hope to put on a run clinic soon. A bit nervous but I gotta do it.

Getting my endurance on

With so many of my peeps injured or on the verge, I am glad that I was blessed with a little patience this off season. I am truly building my endurance engine by taking it slow for the next 3 months.  I can already tell the difference in how my body feels the next day.  Like my coach always said, you should be fresh when coming into a tough workout. If you are always exhausted or have more than a few average workouts each week, then it is my belief you are running hard too often.  At some point you need to get healthy and give your body a break from the year long training.   Yeah, you might get faster, but at what expense? Also, did you get as fast as you could have?   The truth is if you rush your base building you won't benefit at all.  Oh yeah, it's October.  Why are people already hammering?  I don't get it.  They wonder why they are always hurt.

Slow down weekend

Saturday was a full day of training and yard work...follow buy bbq burgers.  I am really loving this aerobic building, and I mean real aerobic building.  I am so far from LT/AT that my body is feeling fresh for every workout.  That's the way it should be.  Two and a half more months of this and we will see how things turn out.

On a different note, I'm also loving this house. It is so far from being ordinary that I still forget about some of the spaces we have.  It's a slow process but in time it will make it our own.   A piece of the furnace needs to be replaced so that sucks, but all is good so far.
